Workshop for scientific staff at the DKFZ
I was grateful to meet so many inspiring women at the DKFZ, all working in very different positions and roles, yet united by one thing: they regularly face challenging situations in which they want to assert themselves.

This includes:
- Saying no to tasks that bring neither money nor prestige, e.g.
- speaking up in meetings, even when others dominate the room with endless monologues
- being taken seriously, even when you’re the youngest – or the smallest -person in the room
- sharing arguments and opinions confidently, no matter the context
- negotiating their salary
- being okay with not being liked by everyone and learning not to smile through every situation
- and many more….
I especially appreciated that one woman shared her honest feedback about the workshop. She said that the topic is hard to grasp beforehand — it’s difficult to understand what exactly we will be working on and to invest the time without knowing whether it will be worth it. I can fully relate to that. Time is money.

The most important thing I teach is this: women should follow their feelings, allow themselves to speak up, stop smiling through every unpleasant situation they encounter, and give their anger space. The rest consists of techniques: acting as if, learning to enjoy saying no, and using their bodies to speak the new territorial language.

I conducted the workshop in German and English, and both sessions were fully booked. I was very happy to receive warm, grateful, and detailed feedback afterwards.
I am proud of every single step these women will take in the future. Go for it!
